Sonny has a slim build, and stands about six feet tall. He has developed some muscle tone because of the training at the facility, but it isn’t very prominent. His hair is straight and he is a red head. His skin is a pale greenish colour, before his X gene was activated he was fair skinned.

PERSONALITY:
Sonny at heart is someone who cares about people and the world. He likes being near people, and experiencing what the world has to offer. If there is a chance to experience something he will make an effort to do so, as long as it doesn’t harm others. He isn’t interested in everything, but until he tries it out at least once, he won’t pass judgement on it. Having an open mind about the world is something he feels is important if there is any change to be made, and there are things that he believes should be changed.
He has a strong environmental streak, and is a firm believer in protecting the earth and its resources. Sustainability is something that is something that people should be looking into, and not doing so seems very short sighted. The natural world is something of beauty and sacred to him. In that same respect, he believes people and mutants are part of this world, and should also be protected and cared for. He is active in promoting equal rights for mutants, and other groups, and firmly believes that if people are on equal grounds great things can be done. He isn’t naïve enough to believe that this is an easy goal, but thinks that changing the world is something doable, and is a part of his life.
Sonny is a laidback individual who prefers to avoid conflict, he has always been of the opinion that diplomacy, protest and legitimate dissent is the best way to bring about change. This is not to say he will constantly roll over, but that violence isn’t something he considers to be high on the list to solving problems. If someone goes after him verbally, he usually responds with a bit of good humour rather than taking offense. Life is too short to hold grudges with people, and it will only really stress you out.
Helping others is something which comes naturally to him. Sonny tries his best to keep people happy and well, sometimes to the point of forgetting about himself. It isn’t even really conscious for him, but he just wants to do things for others, and make sure everyone is happy and well. He will happily stay up to listen to a grieving friend, or help out with someone’s project, even if he is neglecting some of the things that would benefit him, like sleep, or completing his own work. If he suffers for a bit, he’ll manage and roll with it and suffer the consequences.
POWERS/ABILITIES
Sonny is a plant manipulator, and shares biologically some traits related to plants. His skin has high levels of chlorophyll, to the point of green skin. He gets a boost of energy from the sun, and can survive with very minimal food as long as he gets plenty of sunlight and water. His body produces allergens as well, which he is still trying to get under control, as they will spill out during specific times of the year. In addition it is possible to regrow limbs over the course of several weeks, though it is a very slow regeneration. He has a sort of empathy towards plants currently, and knows how they are feeling, and has begun to be able to help heal and repair them. Eventually he will get more control over these abilities and be able to manipulate them further, able to make them grow faster, and be able to use them more defensively, but currently he is essentially sort of a plant guy who can feel what they are doing.
He is weak to the cold, during winter he feels especially sleepy, and has to eat more than normal to keep his energy up. If he were put into a cold environment for a lengthy period his body will eventually go into hibernation and he’ll be unable to wake until the temperature gets warmer. As such he has a sun lamp in his room to help him get some energy in the colder months.
He is also more flammable then a normal human and fire is something he treats with a certain amount of caution. Leaping over a campfire and having your butt set on fire will do that to a person.

Born and raised in California by his hippie parents, Sonny was constantly exposed to the ideals and trends of the sixties. He was given the name Sunshine Rainbow Flowers as his parents decided they wanted a name which they could use for either gender. Although he was mostly down with the lifestyle, he decided early on in his childhood that the name was too embarrassing for school, so he decided to just shorten Sunshine to be Sonny. His family was a very accepting one, and very much for the environment and for the rights of the individuals, often protesting. Vacations often consisted of visiting places which were important to the ecosystem, usually because there was a protest or movement to preserve the land. He got a very broad and unique education, and was able to learn about a few different cultures, as well as pick up some basic language skills in a few different languages, though he is far from fluent.
It was during one of these vacations that some of his power manifested, unfortunately for him it resulted quickly in his skin turning green, identifying him blatantly as a mutant. He found himself being ostracized at school, even by those who he considered friends before, and he was taken out for his own safety, and began homeschooling for a time, not so very different from what he was accustomed to.
During this time he made an effort to learn about some of the levels of mutant hate that is very much a reality in the world. He was shocked by some of the stories and things he learned about what happened, and having to use some of his abilities to defend himself. It was one thing to be ostracized at a former school, but quite another to be a physical target, and considered to be below human, hated just because of what he was. He only received minor injuries, but it came as a shock. His parents decided to move away, and had him go with some old friends in isolated wilderness.
He did some soul searching, looked up different philosophies, and had a period of time of reflection, and eventually found his answer in meditation. It wouldn’t do to seek revenge and add to things, hate only bred hate. Only love could defeat the hate, and only by gaining a measure of understanding could things be improved. He found comfort in Buddhist teachings of metta as well as those of Aikido. While believing in violence, there is value to himself, and he began to learn some of it as well. He eventually decided after some time that he needed to go back into the world, but knew that a conventional school wouldn’t work out.
His parents discovered a school on the east coast for students with these gifts, and signed him up. He learned more about his abilities, and how to harness and control them, and found a place where he could learn more about himself. It became another home to him, and being able to interact with people and help them out, really was therapeutic for him. It gave him more confidence in himself, and made him realize the sort of man he wanted to be.
He recently was delayed in returning to the school due to a trip he took to Brazil to protest some clearing of the rainforest

For those of you familiar with me, I just came back from Brazil, and spent some time defending our rainforests, I like to think we scored a victory, but… there is a lot still left to do.
[He pauses for a second, twirling a pencil in his hand]
Right. Uh, my name is Sonny for those who aren’t familiar with me, for anyone new to the school, I hope you have a great year, and yeah, just enjoy. On a completely different note, if someone wants to help catch me up, I’d totally owe you.

It was almost strange being back in this place. He had spent a good portion of his summer vacation helping out and just really having a great experience in Brazil. If he had to put a label on what exactly he was feeling, was bittersweet. It was great to be in a place where there were others like him, who were facing the same trials and tribulations, but he was still partially mentally and spiritually in Brazil. There was a serenity to the wild there, he had seen so much, and he always felt more alive around there. It was getting colder here, and soon he’d have to break out his sunlamp for his room.
“Uh… excuse me, could you help me?”
Sonny turned to look at the shorter student who was new, with a bit of a bewildered expression for a moment, before shaking his head a little. He gave the younger guy an easy smile, and looked down at the piece of paper.
“Yeah, for sure man. I’m guessing you are brand new here? Looks like you got lost, I’ll take you to class.”
The student look relieved for a moment, then paused and questioned
“What about you, don’t you have class?”
Sonny shrugged a little. Helping out someone who didn’t know where they were going was more important than mathematics in his mind. If he was late, he was late, a little scolding never hurt anyone, usually.
“Don’t worry, I should be fine, let’s get you to class, name’s Sonny.”
